I love to paint fantasy, and I love the Baroque style. This was the project for me, I chose something that I would learn from and fit my portfolio. I am fond of Ruben and all of his work. I went on a hunt and found this lovely piece by Ruben, Two Satyrs c.e. 1618-19.
sorry but I have to be nitpicking here (being Flemish myself): it's Rubens, with the s If you ever find yourself in Europe, be sure to visit Antwerp to see some of his best works!
Nice study! It's great to see Peter Paul Rubens still inspires people in these modern times. When studying his works, the respect for what he did only grows, don't you think? I'm wondering, what do you like the most about his work?
Hey, Thank you for correcting me, I appreciate it, rather then looking a fool. What I love, everything, really. I love his subject matter, when I look at all his paintings I love his style, and the way he handles the lighting too. He really brings his characters to life. Even some he has done that are portraits of the aristocracy; all their embellishments look fantastic, and the portrait too, (i.e. Anne of Austria). But I have noticed he likes to experiment and do different things with lighting and subject matter, that one can see helped improve him or at least draw more interest to his paintings (i.e. 'Night Scene' 1616-17 and or 'The Head of Medusa', and or Portrait of a Young Woman with a Rosary 1577-1640 -So freaking beautiful, the character, portrait, liveliness, the detail, the representation of relativity) –at lest based on my 21st century lens.
I see. What impresses me the most is how he does it, with so few means e.g. he often leaves his underpainting visible in the shadow areas and his palette was quite limited compared to some of today's painters
[in the thumbnail I thought it was Caravaggio
very similar to most of his work.]
Much appreacitate
(It does have that chiaroscuro effect like Caravaggio's work most famously has.)

and it worked out wonderfully, which I was surprised at first.
